Our History

Afonso O. Costa - Fábrica de Máquinas Agrícolas e Florestrais, Lda initiated its activity in the production of agricultural machinery in 1947, having as only technical and manufacture responsible its founder Afonso de Oliveira Costa.

He started his activity in the manufacturing of corn threshers, stone mills, furrow openers for rotary tillers and other. Later he begins the manufacture of agricultural trailers.

In the 1976-91 period new installations are built for the assembly section and later for the machining one, with an area of 2000 m2. In the same period several conventional machines are acquired as well as the first CNC lathe.
After 1981 he starts counting on the help of a mechanical engineer and the offer or products expands progressively with the introduction of rotary cultivators, backside loaders and logsplitters, amongst others.
Between 1987 and 1994 several investment projects are done for the acquisition of new equipment and the number of employees goes from 13 to 18.

Starting 1991 the beginning of the manufacture of forestry equipment takes place, with cranes and trailers.

In 1999 the table wood processor for application on the back of tractors was introduced, to which the harvester head joined in 2001, with application on both cranes and adapted crawler excavators, with three different models.

Meanwhile the company continued its growth, now with about 30 employees, and its modernization machine tool wise, acquiring four CNC machining centres, three CNC lathes, a welding robot, a high-definition plasma cutting machine and CNC press break and shear machines.
